In Mrs. Meyer's 3rd grade Reading WIN Enrichment group students are reading Beverly Cleary's book titled "Ribsy". Ribsy is a dog that finds himself on quite the adventure after jumping into the wrong car in the parking lot of a shopping center. On a recent adventure, while trying to find his way back to his family, Ribsy follows some kids carrying paper lunch bags. He followed them because he would often follow his owner, Henry Huggins, to school each day. Sure enough, the kids led him to a school where he followed them inside to a classroom. Ribsy made himself at home and became a "mascot" for the class until one day he chased a squirrel that a student brought in for show & tell. This caused such a disruption that the principal told the students that pets were not allowed in the school so Ribsy had to leave and head on to his next adventure.
In their book study, one of the questions asked of the students in Mrs. Meyer's group was "Do you think the principal at your school would let you have a dog as your classroom mascot?" After much discussion, the students asked if Mr. C. could come to our group and answer their question. He was able to make a visit on Friday and both the kids and Mr. C. enjoyed their time together. They talked about many things regarding animals and schools while learning that his answer was "Maybe" because a dog would need to be properly trained to become a school mascot.
Thank you Mr. C. for taking time out of your day to come visit our group!
