Apollo Elementary School was bursting with energy and color during its first-ever Color Run, as students, staff, and families came together for an evening of fun, fitness, and community connection. What began as a new idea quickly turned into a celebration of everything that makes Apollo and the surrounding community so special.
Food trucks lined the school grounds, music filled the air, and laughter echoed as students raced through bursts of color, cheered on by their families and teachers. From the starting line to the final splash, the event showcased the heart of Goddard Public Schools, where learning and community go hand-in-hand.
“This event was planned by our PTO to celebrate a successful fundraiser but, ultimately, was about more than just having fun,” said Connor Christensen, Principal of Apollo. “It was about creating a safe and positive environment where families, students, and staff could come together outside the classroom to connect, laugh, and engage in meaningful conversations and fun activities. When our school community feels connected, our students thrive.”
For many families, the Color Run was the perfect reminder of how much joy comes from being involved. Isaac Roehm, an Apollo parent, shared, “Our family had such a great time running together and seeing everyone out here smiling and having a great time. Events like this remind us how important it is for our family to be part of our kids’ school community, it really feels like we’re all in this together. A special ‘thank you’ goes to all who helped organize and plan this well-run event.”
The success of the Color Run reflects one of the key priorities of the USD 265 Strategic Plan, that education is a shared responsibility. Students, parents, community members, and the district must be active partners in the process.
As the sun set on a colorful evening, it was clear: Apollo Elementary’s first Color Run was more than an event, it was a celebration!
